Watercolor Struggles

Happy Monday friends!  I can't believe Thanksgiving is only a few days away.  We are hosting our first Thanksgiving as husband and wife so I have been a little more than nervous.  We spent the weekend prepping the house for all of our family and trying to unpack those last lingering boxes.  The weather has gotten cold so I think it must officially be winter.

I sat down last night at my stamp table to get some much needed creative time in and decided to practice my watercoloring skills.  Wow, talk about struggles.  I made several attempts to color the cheese stamp from the Stampin Up set Giggle Greetings.  My first attempt was going well until the red I was coloring the candle with spread all over my image....FAIL #1.  I didn't get discouraged and reminded myself that you have to be patient when watercoloring and let your image dry before moving onto the next part you want to color.  So I tried a new watercolor medium for my second attempt by using some watercolor markers.  FAIL #2 became very apparent as my cheese became a florescent color making it look like it had been treated with radioactivity.

So I went back to old faithful and just colored the image with some blender pens.  I actually was happy with how the coloring turned out.  Simple and crisp color.

I paper pieced the candle to give the image some pizzazz.  This card can be classified as a CAS (Clean And Simple) card since it is a simple design with few embellishments.  This card is for one of my male friends so I had to resist the urge to add glitter or sequins.

So lesson for today is don't give up when you struggle with a technique.  Practice makes perfect so I'll  make sure to keep practicing my watercoloring.

Thanks for stopping by and happy stamping!
