Creating Embossing Folders with Die Cuts

Hi there stampers!  Today I have a card and a video to share with you featuring the technique where you use die cuts to create an embossing folder.  I am using some new products from the 2016 Stampin Up Holiday Catalog.  There are so many amazing new products in that catalog it is hard to not buy them all!
For today's card I am using the Pretty Pines Thinlits to create my embossing folder.  How you create an embossing folder from die cuts is pretty simple.  I cut out about 15 of the pine cone shapes using the thinlits and then adhered those onto a piece of whisper white cardstock cut to 4.25 x 5.5.  I used my T-ruler to find the middle of my cardstock and glued my first pinecone directly in the center.  I wanted my pattern for my embossing to be symmetrical and evenly spaced so I used that center pinecone as my guide to glue the rest of the die cuts into rows.  After you have all your die cuts adhered to your cardstock, you run this through you die cutting machine as you would an embossing folder.  For this embossing folder, I did use thick whisper white cardstock for my die cuts so that it did not require a shim to be used in my embossing sandwich.

I embossed a piece of saharia sand cardstock using the embossing folder I created to cover the background with embossed pinecones.  I then used all three dies from the thinlit set to cut out all three layers in delightful dijon, daffodil delight, and soft suede.  The dies are originally meant to create pinecones but by using yellow and brown, I think it makes a perfect pineapple!

I then heat embossed the sentiment 'for you' from the Crazy About You stamp set onto a piece of basic black cardstock.  I adhered this to the front of the embossed panel along with a strip of black striped vellum from last year's holiday catalog.  I then cut out the "grateful" sentiment using the Seasonal Frame Thinlits (I got these for a steal from the clearance rack) out of some gold foil.  I adhered the sentiment and the pineapple to the front and that finished the card.

I created a video to show you how you can make embossing folders with your die cuts.  You can watch the video in HD on my YouTube channel HERE, or watch below:
